Madeleine Angevine is a light-skinned white wine grape variety created in the Loire Valley of France a crossing between the Blanc d'Ambre and Madeleine Royale. It is named after its early ripening (22 July is the name day of St. Magdalene), the second part of the name means "of Anjou". It is an early-ripening grapevine is susceptible to small berries and trickling. The white wines from the Madeleine are aromatic with a citrus aroma mainly used as a table grape and it is an all-female variety, which is why it is dependent on cross-pollination. The grape variety has plantings in France, Denmark and England where it has gained considerable popularity and the best varietal expression.
