Wales is a small wine-growing region part of the United Kingdom which has established itself as a renowned sparkling wine-producing part of the country. It is difficult to believe that it is growing grapes because of the cold temperatures and the lack of sun, but the Gulf Stream is warming up the region. The wine history of Wales is old as the Romans which have planted the first vines, although the first commercial vines were planted later on in 1875 on the outskirts of Cardiff. The most common grapes are of course the French and German early ripening varieties like Müller-Thurgau, Madeleine Angevine, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Seyval Blanc. Currently, Wales has not more than 20 wineries, but the number keeps expanding and the world is very curious what are they going to create.
