Slavonia

Slavonia is a big, historic and well-known wine region in the north-east part of Croatia, home of fine white and red wines and also of the world-famous Slavonian oak trees from which are made some of the best barrels and casks used by some of the most valued wines in Europe. Slavonia consists of large plains with small hills, and it is enclosed by the three rivers Danube, Drava and Sava making the climate a bit humid, but it is generally continental with hot summers and cold winters. This is the land of Graševina, also known as Welschriesling in the German-speaking realm, it is one of the most planted and beloved grapes in the country. Other popular grape is the red Frankovka, which is the Austrian Blaufränkisch, making some of the most charming wines there.
