Goriška Brda is probably the most famous and recognized wine region in Slovenia which is the natural continuation of the Collio sub-region in Friuli, Italy. Brda means hills in Slovenian, and it is the exact reality seen the landscape of this beautiful piece of land. It is located on the foothills of the Julian Alps and in very near proximity to the Adriatic Sea which gives the much-needed sunlight exposure. Due to the very steep hills, most of the vineyards are terraced and very difficult to work. The region is home to one of the most innovative and well-known producers, responsible for the orange wine movement in Slovenia.
