WINE REGION
Yunnan
Country China

Yunnan is a large and important wine-growing region in the south part of China. It is a vast agricultural area, and the viticulture has become increasingly popular in the last few decades. As in the other Chinese region, the most planted grape varieties are the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Chardonnay. There are as well very mysterious vine plantings from hybrid grapes not clearly from where they have come from including Rose Honey, French Wild and Crystal. The climate in Yunnan is very favourable for viticulture which can be described as warm, moderated by the Indian and Pacific Oceans, and the growing season there is correspondingly long and promising. Yunnan's vineyard topography is high altitude up to 1600 m above sea level, which is very good because the region is located on a similar latitude to the Sahara Desert. They are cooled in the night from the heat during the day. Since 1980 the region has started to grow and make high-quality grape and wines drawing much international attention from Bordeaux’s most emblematic estates. It is going to become in future one of the most distinguished regions of China.
