Virginia is a small wine-growing region located on the east-coast state of the United States with vine plantings dating back to the 17the century and considered one of the cradles of the viticulture in the country. It is well-known for its white wines from the Viognier grape variety which often has characteristics of powerful aromas of peaches, apricots, floral and herbal notes with great richness on the palate and sometimes a bit too much alcohol content in the wines. The other international grapes like Chardonnay, Vidal, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are thriving here as well. Virginia has 5 American Viticultural Area AVAs including the Monticello (the first established AVA in 1984), North Fork of Roanoke, Northern Neck, Rocky Knob and Shenandoah Valley. The region has developed itself very fast and currently is producing one of the best-quality wines in the United States.
