WINE REGION
Veneto
Country Italy

Veneto is the biggest Italian wine producer region. Veneto is slightly smaller than Italy’s other main wine-producing regions, Piedmont, Tuscany, Lombardy, Puglia and Sicily, yet, it produces more wine than any of them.

Located in the north east of Italy and bordering with Trentino-Alto Adige, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lombardy and Emilia Romagna produce some of the best and most famous wines Italian wines, from Valpolicella to Prosecco, from Pinot grigio to Amarone. Mainly known for its red wines from the Valpolicella area, and Soave amongst the white wines, in the last couple of decades, Pinot Grigio and now mainly Prosecco have made Veneto a wine super power. Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella are behind the vast majority of reds, with more and more international varieties being used such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir.

Veneto is full of DOC appellations and has several DOCS, from Soave, made with garganega grapes to Prosecco DOC and DOCG, there are plenty of appellations in between. Not all wines made in Veneto are of good quality, due to the amount of wine produced, Veneto is also the main bottling centre for cheap, poor quality wine, often coming from all Italian regions.
