WINE REGION
Trentino Alto Adige
Country Italy

Trentino Alto Adige is Italy's northernmost wine region located on the border between Italy and Austria and it is divided into two sub regions, Trentino, where the majority of the population speak Italian and Alto Adige, where German is the other official language, creating, unofficially, two different regions.

Trentino Alto Adige native grapes, the red Lagrein and Schiava, are still widely planted, however, the region has become known for its white wines, from Pinot Grigio to Sauvignon to Chardonnay, with the majority of the vineyards found along the Adige river valleys and its tributaries, and on the terraces built on the slope of the Dolomites.

Together with the grapes already mentioned, Trentino Alto Adige’s grapes and wines include Muller Thurgau, Gewurztraminer, Sylvaner, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that are slowly spreading. And whilst the grapes are found in both areas, Trentino and Alto Adige, the wine style is different with wines from Alto Adige, from the northern part, to be characterised by a higher acidity.
