WINE REGION
Transylvania
Country Romania

The Transylvanian wine region is situated in the centre of Romania, like a fortress surrounded by the highest Romanian mountains, and it is one of the oldest regions of the country. The region is the home of Graf Dracula and many ethnic populations, especially Hungarians and Germans who had substantially influenced the local culture, including the winemaking. It is predominantly planted with white wine grape varieties like Fetească Albă, Fetească Regala and Tămâioasă for whites, and Fetească Neagră for the reds, speciality are the sparkling wines from Fetească Regală grape which birthplace is Transylvania. The region has five DOC wine sub-regions along three river valleys (Târnava, Mureș and Sebeș) that are flowing from the mountains and bring the best minerals for the vineyards together with the cool continental climate are making the region perfect for growing white grape varieties.
