Pennsylvania is an old wine region situated on the north-east of the United States between Lake Erie and the Atlantic Coast. The region is famous for its white wines and as well it produces around 85% of the total production of the United States wine as most of the grapes are going for the creation of raisins, sweet wines with very good quality and table wine. The most planted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Vidal and Viognier, and some of the best wines are blended. The region has 5 American Viticultural Area AVA that has a diverse climate reflecting a variety of geographic hallmarks. A big part the northern half of the state has a warm-summer humid continental climate and almost the whole state has the humid subtropical climate of Maryland to the south, with some areas having more maritime influences from Lake Erie and the western part of the state is cooler with more rain and higher snowfall. Overall, it is a very important region for bulk wines which are vastly consumed within the country.
