Mendocino
Country USA

Mendocino County is wine-growing sub-region of the most northerly located region in California the North Coast of the United States. Mendocino County is particularly known for its organic and biodynamic wines with about 25% of the county's vineyards organically certified. The region has more than 150 years of traditions in the wine-growing and making. It is one of the largest regions in California with two very different climate zones separated by the Mendocino mountain range. One of the zones is along the coastal line which is cool and rainy and the inland zone warmer and drier. Each one of those zones is famous with different grape varieties, as Anderson Valley AVA and Mendocino AVA located on the coast have more plantations of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, famous with its sparkling wines and the minor grapes like Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer. On the other warmer zone are found more Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Syrah and Zinfandel. The region has more than 12 AVAs (American Viticultural Area), some the most famous are Anderson Valley, Mendocino, Redwood Valley, Potter Valley, Cole Ranch, McDowell Valley, Covelo, and Dos Rios. One of the best value and quality wine regions in California, especially its world-class sparkling wines.
