WINE REGION
Marlborough
Country New Zealand

The Marlborough wine region is the most well-known and recognised and is situated at the top right side corner of the south island of New Zealand. This is where it comes the majority of the much-desired Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. It is as well the largest region in terms of production, and it is planted with around 90% Sauvignon Blanc with the rest 10% left for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and the aromatic grapes like Gewürtztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris, which are becoming increasingly popular. The climate has plenty of sunshine, moderate temperatures and strong diurnal variation, which are the keys to Marlborough’s piercing fruit intensity, strong varietal expression, and acid retention over long ripening seasons. Marlborough is divided into three sub-regions the Wairau Valley, Southern Valleys and the Awatere Valley. The Wairau Valley is considered to be the best with some of the most famous expressions of the Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Also, the region has is famous for the production of high-quality Méthode Traditionnelle wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
