WINE REGION
Kakheti
Country Georgia

Kakheti is the best-known wine-growing region located in the eastern part of Georgia. It is the largest region which accounts for 70% of the country's wine production. Kakheti's wine history dates as far back as 6000 BC making it the most important in Georgia with full of world wine heritage. The climate of Kakheti is moderate continental which is characterised by milder winter and hot summer. The average altitude of the vineyard plantations is around 500 meters with humus-carbonate, black and alluvial soils. The soil type is called "cinnamonic", is found in Kakheti's principal wine-growing zones. It is usually comprised of sandy, red-coloured, calcareous clays. The colour of the soil is a result of its high iron content, which also serves to bring a depth of flavour and rustic, earthy notes to the local wines. Kakheti wine region is defragmented in 25 different wine-growing areas including the most notable Tsinandali, Gurajaani, Telavi, Kvareli, Sagarejo and Sighnahi. The most planted grapes in the region are Saperavi, Rkatsiteli, Kakhuri Mtsvane, Khikhvi, Aligoté and Cabernet Sauvignon. The region has become the most sought after from the whole country, and it is already internationally popular for its unique wines.
