Geneva is a wine-growing region is located in the south-west part of Switzerland and the western part of Lake Geneva. The region exists since the Galo-Roman times and has been a source of quality grapes nowadays. The region is known for its powerful Gamay, elegant Pinot Noir, dark-skinned Garanoir and the white grapes Chasselas, Chardonnay, Aligoté and Sauvignon Blanc alongside the German Müller-Thurgau. Geneva wine region is producing all possible wine styles and colours. The region has a climate which has been moderated by the lake described as continental, and it is one of the warmest in the country. The lake does not allow the formation of spring frost which is very common in the whole country. The Geneva wine region has a great variety of soil types and compositions from moraine to alluvial deposits left by its two rivers the Rhône and the Arve. The vineyards in the region are divided into three areas including Entre Arve et Lac to the east, Entre Arve et Rhone to the south and Mandement to the west. One of the most famous vineyards in the country is located in the region called Lavaux, famous for its impressive slopes and terraced vineyards located between Lausanne and Chillon Castle. Geneva is a very interesting region which needs more international attention to show off its great wines.
