Constantia is a small historic wine region located south of Cape Town in South Africa renowned for producing some of the country's well-known wines and especially for the iconic sweet wine Vin de Constance made from Muskat Blanc much desired from royalties all over the world. The region is recognised for its unique styled Sauvignon Blanc and the powerful Bordeaux Blend wines alongside the sweet wines. The region has a cool and temperate climate which has warm summers cooled by south-easterly sea breezes helping to maintain the vital acidity and cool winters with very few or no frost. The vineyards in Constancia are among the steepest reaching 400 m above sea level with soils predominantly made from decomposed granite and clay which is helping to retain water from the winter for the dry summer. Constantia is the first region with big wine-producing traditions which makes remarkable wines.
