Ararat is a wine-growing region located in the foothills of the Mount Ararat called Ararat Plain in the western part of Armenia. The region is one of the oldest of all well known for its brandies with exceptional quality and in the recent decades for its unique wines. Most of the vineyards are typically situated, at a height of 800 to 1,200 meters above sea level. Ararat wine region is the centre of agriculture in the country, and many of grape varieties are grown on its rich in minerals soils. This region is giving birth to the grapes for Armenia's highly praised brandy, which is the base spirit for most of the countries produced. The most popular grapes planted in Ararat are Areni, Muskat, Garandmak, Voskèak, Syrah and Chardonnay. The region has significant importance of the country's viticulture, and it is becoming more and more internationally popular, attracting foreign investors as well.
