Sciaccarello called also Mammolo, is a dark-skinned red grape variety with Italian origin, which produces lightly coloured wines with low tannin content and herbal and peppery notes. The most common usage of the grape is on the island of Corsica, where is often blended with Sangiovese for red and rosé wines. It is as well a principal grape variety of Ajaccio and Sartène appellations there. Once it was popular in Tuscany under the Mammolo name and used as supporting grape in Chianti and prestigious Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, but now not any more. The only place that is to be found outside Italy is Australia.
