Rabigato
COLOR

Rabigato is an ancient light-skinned white wine grape variety with origins in the Douro Valley wine region of northern Portugal. The name Rabigato comes from "Rabo de Gato’" which means "cat’s tail", and this refers to the clusters being relatively small and long. Usually, Rabigato takes part in the white port blend together with Gouveio, Viosinho and Malvasia Fina, planted all over the Douro Superior. The grape has been used for the production of everyday table wine, but that is changing the last decade. Wines made only from Rabigato often have aromas reminiscent of acacia and orange blossom, with green herb notes and a strong mineral character, with a full body and good acid structure, quite an impressive wine. The plantings are increasing all the time in Portugal but unfortunately is never to be seen outside the country.
