GRAPE
Graciano
COLOR

Graciano is an old thick-skinned red grape variety native to the Rioja and Navarra wine regions of northern Spain. It is a late-maturing, low-yielding grape variety susceptible to downy mildew and grape rot. Graciano produces colourful red wines rich in tannins and extracts, with distinct acidity and aromas of pepper and cherries and remarkable ageing potential. Usually is part of the Rioja blend with Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo. Although some more innovative producers are using it as a single varietal creating very interesting wines. It is also to be found in the Languedoc wine region of France under the name Morrastel. Limited plantings of Graciano are to be found in the Mendoza wine region of Argentina, Portugal, The United States and Australia.
