GRAPE
Aleatico
COLOR

Aleatico is a rare dark-skinned red grape variety native to central Italy, but some consider that it comes from ancient Greece. It is a common grape variety for red and rosé wines, but its speciality is sweet passito style where the grapes are dried from Puglia, Lazio and Marche. The best and renowned expression of the grape and the sweet wine is to be found on the island of Elba, near to the Tuscany coast. Back in the days, the grape variety was mistaken with Muscat Blanc a Petit Grains, because they have similar aroma and flavours. The grape has plantings in Corsica in the appellations of Bonifacio and Porto Vecchio, where it produces red and rosé wines famous for its aromatics. Aleatico is to be found in Australia, California, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Chile under the name Red Moscatel.
