Alb de Onitcani is a light-skinned white grape variety indigenous to the south-east part of Moldova. The grape variety is famous for its fresh and light dry white and sparkling wines. It is a relatively new grape made by crossing between Gyulyabi Chil x(Pierrelle x Seyanets 244) in Moldova in 1970 by the breeder D. D. Verderevskii. Alb de Onitcani is often blended with Rkatsiteli to form one of the countries most desired light white wines. It is a late-ripening variety high in acids and often displays vegetal characteristics and flowery, citrusy aromas together with pronounced acidity and minerality. The grape is mostly planted in the Codru wine-growing region, and it is not to be found outside Moldova.
