Štajerska region known as Styria boasts very high-quality white wines, situated in the northeastern part of Slovenia in the Alps on the border with Austria. The climate varies from the continental in the central east to a sub-alpine continental in the west, where the land mounts steeply towards the Alps. The area is very much influenced by Austria and once was part of the Duchy of Styria, a crown land of Austria-Hungary. The white wines are dominating with grape varieties such as Riesling and all its relatives Welschriesling, Laski Rizling, Italico Riesling, Pino Blanc, Pinot Gris, Müller-Thurgau known here as Rizvanec and Sauvignon Blanc which gives great results on that beautiful land.
