Nelson is a small and beautiful wine region in New Zealand located at the tip of the South Island, producing some of the country’s most outstanding terroir distinct wines from a boutique and family-owned wineries. Nelson is not well-known outside the country, and it is more white wine region specialising in the aromatic grape varieties but has as well Chardonnay and Pinot Noir largely planted which are giving outstanding results. The truth is that the proximity to the famous Marlborough overshadows a bit the picturesque Nelson. The region is nicely sheltered giving protection from strong winds, and the proximity to the Tasmanian Sea offers milder temperatures than other South Island regions, and it is blessed with a remarkable number of clear days which makes it the country’s sunniest region.
