Karst known as Kras or Carso in Italian is a small historical wine region near the Adriatic Sea in the western part of Slovenia, famous with its iron-rich red terra rossa soils together with the limestone which is categorised as Karst. The most well-known wine from the region is called Teran made from red Refosco grape, making this wine one of the most typical ones in the country. The region has a harsh climate located near the Julian Alps, it is wedged between snow-capped mountain hills and the sun-baked Adriatic coastline.
