There is a small village called Rovereto in the heart of the Gavi DOCG appellation, where the centuries-old tradition has been able to obtain the best from the particular characteristics of the territory.
A few steps from the town of Gavi, gentle hills of a varied and changing terrain, embraced by an ideal microclimate for the vine,
immersed in the vineyards, stands the "I Moncalvi" winery where people dedicated to viticulture for generations have been working tirelessly to improve themselves.
With an all-Piedmontese tenacity, Mauro and his family, the current generation, has been able to produce wines that are amongst the best in Italy.
Respecting the environment and with a belief that the wine is made in the vineyards, once the grapes are manually harvested, the pillars of I Moncalvi winery are soft pressing, minimization of sulphites in the wine making process, temperature control during fermentation.
I Moncalvi vineyards are located on a soft hill and composed of vines of varying age, between 20 and 50 years, with land exposure mainly to "noon".
Despite the selection in the vineyards, Mauro and his team, only bottle the very best of the wine produced, the rest is sold in bulk to other wineries. This additional selection allows them to really select only the best wine.
I Moncalvi is open to visitors and if you are passing by, we recommend to pay a visit and sample their wines together with some local food that Mauro will be happy to share with you.
