Tămâioasă is a light-skinned white grape variety indigenous to Romania with traditions over 2000 years. The grape is part of the aromatic family of the Muscat. It has a high sugar content and usually produces dessert aromatic wines with very good ageing potential with unmistakable flavours of honeycomb, lime, acacia flower, white roses, basil and incense. It is part of the famous Cotnari sweet wine. The last decade small wineries have started to vinify Tămâioasă grape in a dry style which is becoming more and more popular in the country. Plantings of this rare grape are only to be found in Romania.
