Rolle is a light-skinned white wine grape variety native of Liguria where it is called Pigato, Rolle is also known as Vermentino in Tuscany and Sardinia, that has spread all over the Mediterranean characterised by its aromas of fresh grass, almonds, citrus fruits and its minerality. The grape produces several styles, from dry to sweet wines.
Rolle is also known as Favorita in Piedmont where it produces fresh, delicate, crispy mineral wines. The grape is widely planted in Sardinia, Corsica and Tuscany where it produces its most complex and rich examples. In Provence, France, the grape is used in white and rosé blends adding freshness and minerality. Outside Europe and the Mediterranean, the grape is found in California and Australia where it is used in the production of everyday wines.
