Ortega is a light-skinned white wine grape originating from Würzburg of Germany made by crossing between Müller-Thurgau and Siegerrebe. The grape is very suitable for cool climate wine regions due to its low acidity, which is susceptible to Botrytis, but resistant to mildew. Therefore, it is often used for the production of sweet wines. It is an early ripening grape variety with an elegant, rich and peachy bouquet and flavour and is known for being very harmonic. The Ortega grape variety is largely planted in Pfalz and Rheinhessen, as well as in Franken and the Mosel region. Outside Germany is to be found in England and Canada.
